How To Find Items To Sell In Your Store

So you have your store set up, but what are you going to sell? Follow along with this tutorial and we’ll get you set up!

This part can be confusing, but don’t worry. Everyone that starts an online store has the same issue. Take a breath, relax, and know that we’re here to help!

Not many people have 10’s of thousands of dollars setting around to buy inventory. Much less thousands more to fund payroll to hire employees to ship hundreds of items every day.

  1. Your Own Products:

We recommend having at least a few of your own products. Remember, we specialize in resale, so you can sell anything! 

You can sell anything from items you make yourself, candles, knick-knacks, or stuff you have laying around that you just don’t need anymore. If you have something really desireable you can even hold an auction! Be creative and have Fun!

Selling your own items will add character to your store, and make a more personal buying experience.

2. Dropshipping:

This option can be great and generate a lot of income. 

The downside: It takes a lot of work on the front side to get everything set up and going. There’s just no way around the work, but it’s worth it!

Researching Products And Dropshipping

  1. One of the easiest ways to find popular products to sell is to simply use a search engine. If you want to sell “Kitchen Utensils” you can just search something like “What are the most popular kitchen utensils to sell online”. You can also go to amazon and  search for the most popular or highest selling kitchen utensils and it will give you the results you asked for, and one good way to determine potential profit is to look at how many reviews an item has, and multiply that number by the price of the item. 
  2. You can also use websites like nichescraper.com, but most of those require you to have a subscription, and most of us are on a tight startup budget.

3. Google Trends. This takes a little more time, and goes a little more in depth, but it is still a very powerful tool if you take the time to utilize it. If you look at the screenshots below, you can see I searched “utensils” and this is the data I received.

Here are a few thing to look for in a dropshipping service.

  1. Are they based in the USA? One issue that online buyers have had with online dropship stores is the long shipping times, due to the dropshipping warehouses being located overseas. This issue has been addressed by several quality dropship services that are based in the USA.
  2. Monthly Subscriptions. Most dropship services require you to pay a monthly subscription to utilize their service.
  3.  The prices of the products. Shop around, and you will see that the prices vary from one dropshipping service to another.
  4. How many products they offer on their site. Some USA based dropshipping sites offer over a million products. Others offer around 10,000. But the site with less products may offer better prices. You just have to shop around and see which service works best for your particular needs. I mean, are you really going to offer over 10,000 products? Well, maybe, since FLIP-FINDER gives you unlimited products at such a low price (hey, we can give ourselves a shout out, can’t we?)
  5. Well, it might not be that easy to have 10,000 products in your store, because a lot of dropshipping services will give you a specific number of products that you’re allowed to list…unless you want to pay more. So that’s something to consider also. How many products do you want in your store? Some sites will offer more products than others with their base subscription.

  6. Spocket.com -Wide variety of products, Subscription packages starting at $29.99/month

So here’s how it works. Imagine that you have a boutique type of store that sells accessories.

For an affiliate product, you can go to a big name, established brand of say, sunglasses, and sign up to be an affiliate for them. They will give you your own affiliate link, along with telling you how much commission that you will make from each sale (some companies will even give you a discount code). Then you take a few pictures of their products, and post them in your store.

When a customer wants to purchase that product, the “buy” or “add to cart” button will actually be your affiliate link. When your customer clicks the button, they will be taken to the sunglasses company’s site to check out, and they send you your commission! It’s That easy!
